Med City FC’s U.S. Open Cup Game Postponed; League Season in Limbo

Dear Rochester-area community,

We are so proud of everyone who is tackling the COVID-19 situation in our community! Thank you to all the medical personnel, first responders, police officers and fire fighters for your tireless efforts to keep us safe and healthy. Thank you to our area educators for finding creative ways to keep our kids learning and engaged. And we applaud you all for your efforts to continue to support local businesses, and especially the great restaurants, bars, and microbreweries in the Med City! We strongly encourage you all to continue to do what you can to help sustain them! In the same way, we’d ask that you not forget our area minor league sports teams and the very real challenges they are facing.

Even as we here at Med City FC continue the work of preparing for our 2020 season, we realize that there’s an ever-growing chance that we won’t have a 2020 season. At this point, our Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup first round game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, has been postponed with no reschedule date at this point. This week, the National Premier Soccer League board of directors will meet to discuss prospects for the 2020 league season. The reality is that if we are unable to have a 2020 season, we’re not looking at eight weeks of lost revenue. We’re looking at an entire year of lost revenue with very little way of recouping those losses until the summer of 2021!

As a small business in the Rochester community, we’re calling on all of you to help us. Like many of the wonderful small businesses in our community, we care about Rochester. Over the past three summers, our players have volunteered more than 750 hours of time in the community. We’ve donated items to numerous charities for auctions, hosted community groups at games and provided a fun, family-friendly environment for soccer fans to come together to enjoy and celebrate the “beautiful game,” the world’s game!

During this time, we’ve also provided the opportunity for players from around the area and around the world to play soccer at one of the highest levels our country has to offer, opened up opportunities for them to go even further in the game and watched them build friendships that will last a lifetime.

Won’t you please consider supporting us? Buy tickets to our games! If we end up not having a 2020 season, we’ll honor those tickets in 2021. If you don’t live in Rochester, buy a ticket and we’ll donate it to one of our charity partners. Better yet, buy season tickets! We can donate those, too, if you’d like. Just contact us via email or through Facebook or Instagram and let us know that you’d like to donate the tickets you’ve purchased. You can buy any of our ticket package options here:

We also have some great Med City FC gear. Buy merchandise from our Square store, or check out our brand-new clothing items from hummel, including our new replica jersey or a hat!

As the sports media constantly touts professional teams selling out stadiums and signing players to contracts worth millions of dollars it’s easy to forget the “mom and pop” side of the games you love. The reality is that we have to charge our players a small fee to play for us. Our incredible staff does its work for free. We run our entire organization on an annual budget well below the median household income of Rochester. It’s almost more a labor of love than a small business! We want to make sure we’re here for the Rochester-area community for years to come. Please help us to be able to do that by supporting us during this challenging time.

And don’t forget about the other minor league and amateur sports teams in the community. Rochester FC, Rochester United FC, the Rochester Honkers, the Rochester Royals and the Rochester Grizzlies could also use your support, as could our various youth sports organizations in the area. We thank you and they would, too.

We can’t wait to see you all out on the soccer field for a game again! We just hope that it’s sooner rather than later! In any case, once we do get back out on the field, you can be sure that we’ll be unleashing 90 minutes of Mayhem on our opponents!
