Covid-19 created hardship for everyone in 2020. For Med City FC that hardship was the cancellation of the 2020 soccer season. Having survived the year off, the Mayhem are now looking to rebuild and continue their previous successes!
The road to recovery for the team starts on Friday, May 7, when the Mayhem takes on Spartan FC, a team that plays in the Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League, in a non-conference match at 6:45 pm at Rochester Regional Stadium at Rochester Community & Technical College. Med City FC recently confirmed that they will be allowed to have fans in the stands, and they are encouraging the southeast Minnesota soccer community to help them “Max Out the Mayhem.”
“RCTC has told us that we’ll be able to have as many as 925 fans in the stadium for the games,” says Med City FC general manager Frank Spaeth. “We’ll have to follow the college’s Covid-19 protocols and that’s going to add some layers to getting people into the stadium on game days, but we’re working to create a system to streamline the process as much as possible.”
In addition to paying admission this season, fans will need to take two other steps to gain entry into games. First, they’ll need to fill out a short, four question Covid-19 questionnaire that is being required of all guests to RCTC. Once they have successfully completed that, they’ll be sent a “green screen” via email that will give them approval to enter. They will then need to write their name and phone number on a list that will go to the college. Fans will be able to complete the questionnaire anytime the day of the game, and the Mayhem will encourage fans to take care of that early. The team will also provide instructions and links on their website to make things as easy as possible.
At the end of the day, the Mayhem are just excited to be able to play in front of people again. “After a year without it, we can’t wait to get back out on the field,” says Spaeth. “And we would really love to reach maximum capacity for our games this season.” That’s the impetus behind the “Max Out the Mayhem” push.
“We want to take advantage of our ability to actually have fans in the stands, and we hope that fans will value being able to watch live sports again and rally behind us as we look to recover from a tough year,” Spaeth says. “We’d love to reach maximum Covid-19 capacity and we need the community’s support to make that happen.”
